O Say, Can’t We See?
O say, can’t we see?
Are we blind because we want to be?
Yes, we’ve been lied to for so many years.
Bigger and nastier weapons draw cheers.
Meanwhile Vet families learn all about tears.
War’s just big business that plays on our fears.
And what about all the bombs that we’ve thrown?
26,000 last year alone.
For terror in the sky is what we are known.
What if they attacked us with a drone?
Are we so selfish we only care about deaths of our own?
If we want peace then let’s pick up the phone.
And what if all cells resisting united to say,
Why is so much of the taxes we pay
Used just for weapons so generals can play
Whack a bad guy with a strike like a knife,
Serving the lie that this gives a safe life
To people who don’t face Mecca each day,
But made in God’s image also are they.
Fifteen straight years of war is enough.
We can be safer more if we love.
There are ways to love yet be tough,
If we open our eyes and start seeing the truth.
Jesus right now is shaking his head.
We think that we’re good yet we make people dead?
We worry about money, our kids and all that we need,
But our actions abroad so violate our creed.
